Salt carried on prevailing winds settles on the cladding and holds moisture against the coating. Elevations facing the water take wind-driven rain with no shelter. Reflected light off the harbour adds UV load on top of direct sun. None of that is unusual for the Shore — it is simply the operating condition, and it has to be designed for rather than discovered later.
The practical effect is that a coating system that performs perfectly well on a sheltered inland property can come up short on a Milford or Whangaparaoa frontage. We assess the exposure first, then specify.
